Accessibility Statement

Last updated: April 2025 · Applies to alhussainmasjid.co.uk

Our commitment

Al-Hussain Masjid is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, including those with visual, motor, auditory, or cognitive impairments, and those using assistive technologies. We recognise that accessibility is not a one-time task — it is an ongoing responsibility.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. In practice, this means we aim to:

  • Use clear, readable fonts and sufficient colour contrast
  • Provide meaningful page titles and heading structure
  • Ensure all interactive elements are keyboard-navigable
  • Avoid flashing or auto-playing content
  • Write plain, clear English throughout
  • Provide descriptive text alternatives for images where relevant

Known limitations

This website is maintained by a small volunteer team. Some areas where we know improvements would be beneficial include:

  • Arabic text is used in some sections for religious content. We use a right-to-left layout where necessary, but screen reader support for Arabic in this context may vary.
  • Live stream video content (via YouTube) does not currently include captions. We encourage YouTube to caption content where possible.
  • Embedded payment interface (SumUp) is third-party and subject to SumUp's accessibility standards, which are outside our direct control.
  • Some older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible. We are working to improve this.

If you experience difficulty

If you find any content on this website difficult to access or use, please let us know. We will do our best to provide the information in an alternative format or assist you directly.

Our commitment to improvement

We review and improve this website on an ongoing basis. Accessibility issues identified by users or through internal review will be prioritised. We are committed to making this site more accessible over time, and we welcome feedback from community members and disabled users.
