- SumUp transmits your payment to us. We receive a record of the donation amount, date, and a payment reference.
- Payments are encrypted and processed in accordance with PCI DSS standards by SumUp.
See SumUp's Privacy Policy โ for details of how SumUp handles your payment data.
3. Bank transfers
You may also donate by direct bank transfer using the sort code and account number displayed on the donation page. Bank transfer donations are received directly by the Shia Welfare Association. Please include a reference indicating the purpose of your donation if relevant.
4. Refunds
Donations to registered charities are generally not refundable as they constitute a gift to charitable purposes. However, we will consider refund requests in the following limited circumstances:
- Duplicate payments made accidentally in the same session
- Technical errors that resulted in an incorrect amount being charged
- Payments made by an unauthorised person (e.g. card fraud โ report to your bank first)
Refund requests must be made within 14 days of the transaction. To request a refund, contact Imtiaz Kazmi on 07866 636907 or visit the masjid with your payment reference.
We cannot refund donations already disbursed in good faith as part of ongoing charitable activities.
5. Failed or duplicate payments
If your payment fails, no charge is made to your account. If you believe you have been charged twice for the same donation, contact us immediately with your payment reference and we will investigate with SumUp. Confirmed duplicate charges will be refunded.
6. How donations are used โ general fund
General donations (not directed to a specific campaign) are applied at the trustees' discretion to the ongoing operational needs of Al-Hussain Masjid. This includes maintaining daily prayers, community programmes, live streaming, utilities, maintenance, and other charitable activities of the Shia Welfare Association.
7. Specific campaign and restricted donations
From time to time we run fundraising campaigns for specific purposes (for example, equipment upgrades or building improvements). When you donate to a named campaign:
- Your donation is intended to support that stated purpose.
- If the campaign reaches its target before your donation is received, or if the campaign is subsequently amended by the trustees, surplus funds will be applied to the closest related charitable purpose of the masjid.
- If a campaign cannot proceed (for example due to planning or supply issues), funds will be applied to another operational or capital need of Al-Hussain Masjid.
- We will not reallocate restricted donations outside the general charitable purposes of the Shia Welfare Association.
If you have specific requirements about how your donation is used, contact us before donating so we can confirm whether your request can be accommodated.
8. Gift Aid
If you indicate Gift Aid eligibility on a donation form:
- You confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and have paid income tax or capital gains tax equal to the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in the current tax year.
- You are responsible for ensuring your Gift Aid declaration is accurate. If it is not, you may be required to pay the difference to HMRC.
- We collect your name and home address to submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC as required by law.
- We retain Gift Aid declarations for six years as required by HMRC.
If your tax situation changes and you are no longer eligible for Gift Aid, please notify us so we can update your records.
9. Monthly donations
If you set up a monthly donation through SumUp, the recurring arrangement is managed by SumUp. To cancel or amend a recurring donation, contact SumUp directly or contact Imtiaz Kazmi on 07866 636907 and we will assist you.
10. Receipt and acknowledgement
SumUp will send a payment confirmation to the email address you provide. We do not issue separate receipts unless specifically requested. For Gift Aid donors, we retain records as required by HMRC and can provide a copy on request.
